Neurodiversity in the Workplace

Creating an inclusive and positive workplace for neurodivergent employees

The WAM Programme at AHEAD are running a free training event hosted by WAM employer Dell Technologies.

When? October 17th 2019 from 10.30am - 1pm.

Where?  Dell Technologies, Ovens Campus, Cork.

Event information: Over the past few decades, conversations and awareness around autism and other developmental and learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, OCD, mental health etc. have gained attention; however the term 'neurodiversity' is now being used as an umbrella term to describe these disabilities and individuals who have differences in the way they think and interact with the world, including the workplace.

It's estimated that around 10% of the population is neurodivergent in some way. In 2017/18 there were over 11,000 'neurodivergent' students enrolled in higher education registered with the disability office; employers choosing to ignore this, could be missing out on talent!

The event will be focused on themes such as neuroscience, best practices in raising awareness with hiring managers and HR staff, accommodating neurodivergent employees in the workplace, and mentoring.

Topics and features of the event include:

  • Neurodiversity and Learning -  UCC Vice President for Teaching and Learning - Dr. Marian McCarthy
  • Neurodiversity in the Workplace - Dell Technologies
  • Navigating a world that is Neurotypical - Colm Mc Namee - Salesforce
  • Career Mentoring Programme for Students with Disabilities - UCC Careers Service - Shay Nolan
