Kerry County Council

Environmental / Climate Awareness Department

The graduate will be supporting the  Environmental/Climate Awareness Officer and assigned to Kerry County Council's Environment Department.

The Environment Department is responsible for the protection of the environment of the County through implementation and enforcement of the many regulations directives and legislation dealing with Waste Management and Pollution.  In addition, the Section provides infrastructure for the recovery, recycling and disposal of waste. Beach Management including management of our Blue Flag Beaches is also the responsibility of this Department. The provision of Veterinary Services and Burial Grounds also comes within the remit of this Section.

The key duties and responsibilities of the role may include:

  • Providing support to our Environmental/Climate Awareness Officer who works as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering regulatory, enforcement, and awareness activities in Waste, Litter Management, Water Quality, Air Quality, Climate Action , Biodiversity, Energy, and other areas of Environmental Care.
  • Financial/Budget Management
  • Assisting with Grant and Project Funding Applications
  • Assisting with the implementation of the An Taisce Green Schools Programme
  • Liaising with Tidy Towns and Community Groups
  • Administrative Support to Kerry County Council’s Climate Action Team
  • Ensuring high levels of customer service, responding to queries and requests for information in a professional and courteous and timely manner.
  • Communicating and liaising effectively with employees, supervisors and managers in other sections, senior managers, and customers in relation to operational matters for their section.
  • Compiling, preparing, and presenting reports as necessary, including the preparation of reports or letters, which may be sensitive and/or confidential in nature.
  • Organising and facilitating internal and external meetings/events and participating and engaging in discussions as appropriate.
  • Providing specialist administrative assistance and support in the delivery of projects as required.
  • Maintaining an effective document management or filing system as required.
  • Preparing and completing standard letters, forms, reports, emails and statistics within clearly defined information.
  • Dealing with standard enquiries and correspondence by email, including forwarding to other members of the section, co-ordinating draft replies, flagging, tracking and following up emails and correspondence as appropriate.
  • Providing a data entry service, maintaining spreadsheets and databases as required.
  • Raising purchase orders on the Agresso system, dealing with enquiries from suppliers and providing a basic accounts function for the section.
  • Undertaking any other duties as required by the Council from time to time.

 Communications Unit  - Corporate Services and ICT Directorate 

The graduate will be assigned to the Communications Unit which operates within the Corporate Services and ICT Directorate.

The role will involve working within the unit and assisting with the delivery of public and customer communication functions, including dealing with media queries, press interviews, updating the Council website and social media platforms, and public messaging on behalf of the local authority.

 Community Department - Community and Culture Directorate 

The graduate will be assigned to the Community Department which sits within the Community and Culture Directorate.

The Community and Culture Directorate is responsible for the delivery of a number of functions including Community Grant applications, LEADER and SCIAP administration, community development and other engagements.

  • dealing with the processing of community grant applications
  • assisting with preparation of presentations as required
  • dealing with standard enquiries and correspondence by email, including forwarding to other members of the section, co-ordinating draft replies, flagging, tracking and following up emails and correspondence as appropriate.
  • undertaking any other duties as required by the Council from time to time.

Finance Directorate

The graduate will be assigned to the Finance Directorate. 

The role will involve working within the finance unit and assisting with the delivery of a number of financial analysis and financial planning functions for Kerry County Council.

The key duties and responsibilities of the role may include:

  • Carrying our weekly/monthly/quarterly reviews of income and expenditure and ensuring budget structures compliance
  • analysing trends in expenditure and income profiles
  • assisting in risk review of factors impacting on future budgets
  • carrying out ongoing analysis and monitoring of coding/products/account elements/chart of accounts to ensure correct chargeability
  • identifying increased/decreased spending/funding and forecasting future budgets based on findings
  • reporting functions to aid Budget Managers/Section Heads
  • analysing data to ensure compliance with Kerry County Council policies/procedures for the purchase of goods/services
  • assisting with expansion of online services to aid financial management
  • dealing with standard enquiries and correspondence by email, including forwarding to other members of the section, co-ordinating draft replies, flagging, tracking and following up emails and correspondence as appropriate.
  • undertaking any other duties as required by the Council from time to time.
