Staff Consultation Workshops

This phase of the research will focus on staff in Further and Higher Education and those working in the placement locations who support the professional placement of disabled students. This will be a half-day, online, interactive, solution focused session. Using small group discussion, staff will be supported to share their experiences of good practice and barriers they have identified to a successful student placement. The aim is facilitating the development of a shared learning experience. 

There will be 3 consultation workshops focusing on the following professions:

  •     Teaching (Primary & Secondary) 
  •     Nursing (including Midwifery, Mental Health Nursing)
  •     Health professions (for example, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Physio and Occupational Therapy)

There will be one consultation workshop focusing on delivering professional work placements in:

 Who are we looking for?

These sessions are open to those who support professional placements including, Placement Coordinators, Disability Advisers, Preceptors, Clinical Practice Coordinators, Heads of School, Coordinating Teachers, School Principals, from both the placement location and the institution.  

 Consultation Workshops

The consultation workshops will take place online from:

October – December 2021 lasting from 9.30 am – 1.00 pm.

These will be interactive, solution focused sessions. Staff will be supported to share their experiences of good practice and barriers they have identified using small group discussions in break out rooms and other interactive software such as Menti. Thus facilitating the development of a shared learning. There will be regular breaks during the session.

The output from these consultation workshops will act to inform the provision of national guidance supported by the HEA and, if possible relevant Professional Bodies, to provide clarity on the application of reasonable accommodations in national competency-based courses. It is anticipated guidance will include examples of good practice and case studies.

 What will you receive for your participation?

In addition to developing your knowledge on the topic, participants will receive a:

  • Certificate of Participation from AHEAD, which can be tailored to an individual’s staff development plan.
  • A personal copy of the final guidance which will be published by the HEA.

Early registration is recommended. Please note there is limited availability and we will fill places first on the basis of ensuring representation of a diverse set of voices.
